A New Way of Life Reentry Project provides housing and support services to formerly incarcerated women in South Central Los Angeles. This program facilitates a successful transition back to community life. Since 1998, we have helped transform the lives of more than 650 women and their children. As a community advocate, A New Way of Life (ANWOL) works to restore the civil rights of people with criminal records for housing, employment, public benefits, and the right to vote.
Our core values are: We believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect; we believe treatment better serves the individual and society than prisons and punishment; we believe that with community support, everyone can excel; we believe in the power of mentoring to help people achieve their dreams; and we believe in empowerment through critical analysis of the world around us.
Housing is an essential first step for the reentry population. It creates stability and lays a foundation for a productive life. Because of this fact, A New Way of Life has partnered with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), to start the Reentry Family Reunification Pilot Program. This program will assist the formerly incarcerated population reunite with their families. We want to end homelessness and help prevent individuals from returning to jail or prison.
At this time, ANOWL is looking to identify and place formerly incarcerated people with family members living in the HACLA’s Section 8 housing within the city of Los Angeles. After placement, ANWOL will then connect both the client and family with intensive case management and supportive services to ensure the success of the reunification and housing arrangement.
Unfortunately, at this time, we are only able to admit a restricted number of people into the program. If you are interested in this pilot program, please answer the following questions. A Case Manager will contact you regarding your eligibility for the program. If you are ineligible for the program, you will be referred to other agencies that will be able to assist you. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns, we are here to support you in your transition back to a successful family life.
